Precious 22” antique doll, from 1915-1920 made in Japan by Morimura Brothers.
The back of her stamped bisque head/shoulders are marked “5 MB Japan”, the hallmark associated with Morimura Bros. Morimura Brothers was a Japanese import house based in New York City, NY. They supplied bisque head German-like copies of dolls to the North American market and when it was difficult to import German dolls during WWI from 1915 and up to 1926.
The bisque head is free of any hairlines, cracks, chips or restoration.
Modeling is crisp and the painting is sharp and delicate, indicative of particular care by the manufacturers.
Her distinctive, finely-modeled face is stunning. She has jewel-blue glass, sleep eyes with upper lid eyelashes framed by expertly painted lower eyelashes and flat feathered eyebrows.
She has a cute open mouth with four dainty teeth and a darling dimpled chin.
Finely painted and modeled features bring her pale complexion to life.
She has lightly blushed cheeks and soft coral-colored lips.
In addition, she is graced with her original human-hair wig of soft, loose, light-brown curls.
Her beautiful modeled hands are also bisque. All her fingers are fine.
Her lovely kid leather, ball jointed body has normal antique wear/discoloration for her age.
She is all original with the exception of her lower legs of black stockings and feet that were remade and refitted with new, shiny black shoes.
She is adorned in her lovely antique, original costume that she came in. Her rich chocolate velvet dress has a button closure and is trimmed with a handsewn gold-colored ruffle along the neckline, front and waist to match the two satiny flowers in her beret.
Her pantaloons are also button closure, and are made of white cotton with lace trim.
She is sold as is. Her eyes have slightly retreated but are not loose. Also, she has a little weepage of stuffing from under her arms so she needs to be handled with care. She will be carefully packed with layers of bubble wrap and packing material. We will double box as we see appropriate. We use extra packing materials on our delicate and fragile items which increases weight and container size. We want your purchase to arrive safely.
She is a family heirloom, “grandmother’s only doll as a child and was loved tenderly”.
This rare find doll demands a loving home with love and appreciation – do not hesitate to make her your own!
