Description

A very scarce example of a excavated 2 piece Civil War or pre Civil War cadet button for the Norfolk Military Academy of Norfolk, Virginia.   The Norfolk Academy was founded in 1728 and was later renamed The Norfolk Military Academy.  Many graduates served in the Confederate Navy.  This button was previously misidentified as Transylvania University by Albert and later positively identified as Norfolk Academy.     Albert# SU-390.    Backmark reads

"  SCOVILLS  &c  . EXTRA .  ".   Button dark excavated patina with areas of original gilded finish.  There is a slight push on the face.   Button measures 17.01mm.
