The theme is Spanish Colonial Revival. In 1945, the notorious Bugsy Siegel, Meyer Lansky, Gus Greenbaum and Moe Sedway bought the property. In 1946, they sold it back to one of the original owners J. Kell Houssels. In 1963, Jackie Gaughan purchased the property. Gaughan lived in the El Cortez's tower penthouse and was known to be on the casino floor daily. In 2008, Gaughan sold the property to Kenny Epstein, a longtime friend and business partner.
