What is a Silver Strike?
A Silver Strike, is a Limited Edition Gaming Token which is won from a special slot machine and is in a protective plastic holder. People from all over the world collect, buy, sell and trade these unique gaming tokens. The first Silver Strikes were won from special slot machines in the Reno/Tahoe area of Nevada in 1992. The tokens have been issued with redeemable values of , , , , , , , 0 and 0. The most common denomination is . Did you know the first Silver Strikes did not come in the plastic cases/capsules? Older Silver Strikes have a higher silver content. As the price of silver increased, the amount of silver decreased. Today, most strikes are CLAD, or brass with heavy silver plating.
Sam Boyd's Fremont Hotel:
Located at 200 Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas, the Fremont Hotel and Casino opened on May 18, 1956. At the time, it was the tallest building in Nevada at 15 stories. In 1983, Sam Boyd bought the Fremont and added it to the Boyd Gaming group of properties. The property has 447 rooms and offers four restaurants.

About Sam Boyd:
Sam was born April 23, 1910 in Enid Oklahoma. In 1941, Sam arrived in Las Vegas with his family and in his pocket. He worked up through the ranks around Las Vegas moving from dealer to pit boss and to shift boss. He saved enough money to invest in the Sahara Hotel. He became general manager and partner at The Mint in downtown Las Vegas. In 1968, Sam started managing the Eldorado Casino in Henderson. In 1975, Sam and his son Bill founded Boyd Gaming and developed and operated the California Hotel in downtown Las Vegas. They began marketing to an underserved market - tourists of Hawaii. Their Sam's Town adventure came in 1979 when they decided to cater to the local Las Vegas market. Sam Boyd was known for his integrity, service and excellence.
