    Glory Hole Tavern History:
Central City, Colorado was settled in 1859 during the Pike's Peak Gold Rush and was known as the "Richest Square Mile on Earth". Emmy Wilson opened The Glory Hole Tavern, named after a famous gold mine, on July 4, 1947 in the historic Ignatz Myer Building. She was often seen parading through other establishments in dresses from the 1890's drumming up patrons for her own business.  The idea for the image of a lady's bottom with a lifted skirt came from some of her patrons.  The model for the painting was Emmy herself and the canvas painting was added to the ceiling.  Emmy died in 1963.  The Ignatz Myer Building went through a restoration process that was completed in 1992.  Gaming was allowed in Colorado mining towns in 1990.  Today, the property is occupied by the Famous Bonanza Casino.
