Copper Rim:
Silver Strikes are composed of metals in varying proportions. The center is made of .999 fine silver (unless it is a "Clad" or silver plated) and the outer ring is composed of yellow brass. However, for a very short time - at the end of 2000 to mid 2001 - Global Minting made some Strikes with a
red brass
. These are called "coppers" because of the rim color. Typically, the "coppers" are harder to find because they were only made for a short period of time.
Dutch Schultz Car:
Dutch Schultz (Arther Simon Flegenheimer; 8/6/1901 - 10/24/1935) was a violent and notorious New York City mobster of the 1920's and 1930's. He made his fortune in organized crime
such
as bootlegging and numbers racketeering. He owned a black 1931 Lincoln and had it armored with steel plates. After he died, the car ended up with Al Capone. The car was actually never involved in a shoot out. The owners of the Primadonna Casino, at the time, had the employees shoot it up out in the desert, hoping to add some mystery to it.
About Primm Valley Resort Casino:
Have you ever driven from California to Las Vegas? Or from Las Vegas to California? About 40 miles west of Las Vegas, on Interstate 15, at the border of Nevada and California is a little pit stop called Primm, Nevada. There are three casinos there: Whiskey Pete's, Buffalo Bill's and Primm Valley Resort. Ernest Jay Primm opened Whiskey Pete's in 1977. The area was originally owned by a man named Pete MacIntyre who had a
gas station that didn't do very well so he turned to bootlegging - he died in 1933. Primm's history remembers him as "Whiskey Pete". As a tourist attraction, Bonnie and Clyde's death car is displayed in the lobby of the hotel. Primm Valley Resort was
originally called the Primadonna Resort and Casino. Free shuttle busses operated between the three resorts.
Bonnie and Clyde:
Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were two people who lived during the Great Depression. They robbed dozens of banks and killed at least nine people from 1932-1934. On May 23, 1934, law officers killed the duo in a roadblock ambush, piercing the car with 100+ bullets. The infamous blood soaked and bullet riddled Ford V8 made its rounds at fairs and amusement parks nationwide for years after their death.
Fun Fact #1
: The unincorporated community of Primm used to be referred to as State Line, however, it was renamed in 1996 to avoid confusion with Stateline in Northern Nevada. The town was named after Ernest Jay Primm, the original developer of the area.
Fun Fact #2:
Primm is the location of the Mint 400 - the American off-road race.
Fun Fact #3:
The annual off-road race Primm 300 is located in Primm, NV.
