    Description

    Vintage Collectible Japanese Geisha Doll.
Meet Toyomaru – “Abundant One” – an apprentice geisha ("maiko") taking a stroll. She has a self-assured expression and is dressed in a flamboyant silk kimono, colorfully patterned and detailed as maiko outfits always are. Maiko are presented at all the local tea houses by their older, more experienced "sisters" before they become geisha themselves.
This doll was made in the 1960’s and is in very good condition, having never been exposed to sunlight. Her face, hands and feet are made of “gofun” oyster shell gelatin. Her delicate hands with highly detailed fingers, and her facial expression, really set her apart from more ordinary dolls of this type.
NOTE: her complexion shows signs of age: it is somewhat dull from having been cleaned. The price reflects this.
Toyomaru stands at 14” tall on her black lacquer base. She carries a handcrafter paper and wood parasol (not original).
This is a rare vintage collectible. Her design and stance make for a beautiful presentation in any space.
